So, this happened the other day on my 65EF9500 which only had 250 power on hours. All HDMI inputs and the internal OSD picture test show the same garbage. LG Tech came by and told me he has to check on availability of the motherboard, for which there is no ETA. I paid $400 + tax for the repair visit, which is supposed to include all repair costs with the exception of the panel itself and also a 90 day warranty. We'll see what happens. If they can't fix it and they decide to buy their way out, I'm worried I won't get enough money back from them to buy an equivalent 65" OLED.

I had that screen about a month ago and I swapped a bunch of cables around went through some power Cycles to no avail. I tried the TV again an hour later and everything was working fine and knock on wood it has been ever since. I have over 4000 hours on mine.

Yeah, unfortunately mine does not recover. I will sometimes get a clear picture which lasts for 1-2 seconds after which it garbles as shown in the photo. :-(

If they locate a motherboard try to find out where because I may need one soon.

Yea, that sucks. I don't know what they will do. If it's anything like Samsung did with their F8500 plasma, it might not end well. Samsung stopped making parts for that tv, 2 years after it was discontinued. So unless you had a warranty where they offered you a different tv, if a board went bad, you were out of luck and stuck with an expensive 2 to 3 year old brick.

Well I sure hope you do. Only 250 hours on the screen...4K 3D Oled. Rare bird. You might want to think about selling it after you get it fixed. Probably a lot of people that would love to get their hands on that 3D tv with such low hours on the screen. Good luck to you

Did your panel split screen with colored pastel overlays on one side then go to vertical lines?

Mine has been fine so far but I decided to go ahead and renew the Best Buy warranty again. Figure for $150 it is worth it. With what we paid as early buyers I like having the insurance.

Unless that warranty includes some sort of "full replacement", I'm not sure why you did that. I love this TV, but the fact is:
1) it is difficult (if not impossible) to get parts for it anymore
2) the technology has improved significantly in the last couple years (3D notwithstanding)

If they can't fix it they must replace it is how I read the warranty. I know new ones are better and will have no problem getting one if and when I need to.

That is correct, if there are no parts they will issue a pro-rated credit from Best Buy. Mack Warranty would cut a check. Square Trade offers a like TV......

I think the problem is what I high-lighted above: what does pro-rated get you after a few years? Is it more than the value of all the premiums you've paid?

BB doesn't give pro rated. I had a washing machine totally fail after 2 years. I had a 3 year extended warranty. I got a new machine which matched the cost of the one that broke. With tv's, if you have a 65 inch OLED, they will offer you the newest 65 inch OLED if it isn't more expensive than what your broken one cost. Since the price of OLED is dropping, the replacement will indeed be less expensive than the one you had.

I know I am violating a major rule of not reviewing the 25000 posts...but I did all that years ago. I was hoping someone could just tell me the simple answer. I know it is related to shadow detail and I did try upping the 5 % luminance. What is very annoying for lower lit scenes is this dark halo ( or halos) around the edge of the picture...kinda a fisheye effect. Both my friends have newer models and never complain about this. I would actually consider a new model but no way I am giving up 3D. This effect does not seem to happen on bluray. Could it be related to a combination of shadow detail issues and quality of cable signal?

That is a problem with this tv. Many of the 2015 models have pretty serious vignetting issues in dark scenes. No way to fix it. If your tv serial number starts with 511 or earlier, you will have the issues. LG finally fixed in with December 2015 builds, IOW 512 or later such as january 2016, 601.

Just an update on my warranty/repair issue on my 65EF9500. LG Canada's service team offered me a prorate buyout of the unit for $2464.96 CDN which I have accepted. In order to get that amount, I had to send them a proof of purchase from Best Buy USA showing I purchased the TV for $4999.99 USD in 2015. This "refund" cheque will get me very close to the $2999 I need to purchase a new OLED65C8P. In order to receive the cheque, I had to remove the serial number sticker on the back of the display and sent it by courier with a signed letter accepting their offer. Once I receive the cheque, I am going to send the defective motherboard from my unit to a repair service in the US. If they succeed in repairing it for $199 USD, I will have a 2nd working 65" OLED I can put in another room.

Just be aware there are issues with the 2018 models, specifically the C8.

Question, my in-laws have an ef9500 and want to use the new 4k FireTV for SDR and HDR. I plugged it in and enabled deep color and get HDR but it's horrible.... Very Flat and washed out. Is there any other specific seeing I'm missing?

I have the 4k Fire TV connected to my EF9500. Is there any specific title you're watching that seems "horrible"? I can test it out and let you know if I'm seeing the same. I haven't seen any HDR content with these devices that seem horrible. The last title I saw with this combination was "Jack Ryan" on Amazon.

I haven't tested anything in Amazon, but pretty much any Netflix title. Just for comparison look at Cosmos Laundromat or Sparks. They look like 4 bit color, flat, almost grayish compared to the internal app.

I compared "Cosmos Laundromat" on the two devices (LG internal Netflix app and Fire TV) and they looked the same to me. Maybe it's some setting on either the Fire TV or the device it's connected to? I have the Fire TV connected to HDMI 3 of the LG and not to an AVR so that could also make a difference?
