Panasonic DP-UB820 4K UHD Blu-ray player: CAD$450 in Canada. (That's < US$349.)

At the Panasonic eStore, the Panasonic DP-UB820 4K UHD Blu-ray player is CAD$499.99 - 10% off = $449.99. That's less than US$349, and the player was only released yesterday in Canada. Shipping is free. Additional $2.50 environmental fee, plus usual taxes.

This player has HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision. It also has adjustable HDR to SDR conversion, as well as an HDR optimizer to properly tone map for non-1000 nit TVs. And it has best-in-class image quality, likely equivalent to the UB900 which in turn is better rated than the Oppo (and others).

Use promotion code SAVE10TODAY to get your 10% off (which is actually 10% off any regularly priced item on the Panasonic eStore site). Not sure if that code is just today, or if it's the same for a few days. It was a different code yesterday. FYI, after I had the item in the cart and then not buying it, the site spontaneously popped up the 10% off code.

It went out of stock this afternoon, but I see it's now back in stock.

AFAIK, this is only available to Canadian addresses.

Wow, that was quick! Now out of stock again. If you're still interested in picking one up, it would probably be best to check periodically. It was in stock last night and this morning and then out of stock this afternoon and then in stock again this evening and now out of stock again.

Just called Panasonic and they said their next shipment is next month! Everything has been shipped to dealers so no more available from Panasonic directly.

@BuGsArEtAsTy ,

Do you know how long with the promotion code SAVE10TODAY lasts? Is it just for today or will it work for a while? Thanks.

No idea how long it lasts. It's still valid today though. Note that it's just a general promo code for all regularly priced items on their site. Unfortunately, there is no more stock. See below:

Wow. I got in just under the wire. The good news though is that the dealers will have stock soon.

The $500 CAD price listed on Panasonic website is an obvious pricing mistake. Will they eventually catch on? I think so.

I recall a somewhat similar but different pricing/rebate on a Panasonic projector years ago. They were offering a $300 rebate OR a $300 price reduction however a price listing mistake with dealers allowed some purchasers to get both, the rebate and price reduction adding up to $600. They caught their mistake a few weeks later but not before many people enjoyed their error.

I received my CAD$450 UB820 today.

Apparently there will be units available at retail stores shortly, but there won't be many available. But you can be sure they will be at the full CAD$500 price. I don't think it's a price error. I think the only "error" is they allowed the 10% off coupon to be applied to the UB820. But even that isn't really an error because it's just a generic coupon for all regularly priced items on their site.

The reason I'm not convinced it was an error is because I was comparing at prices from 5 locations: Canada, USA, UK, Germany, and Australia, and the USA was by far the most expensive, after excluding the taxes. Canada was the cheapest and Australia was right in the middle between Canada and the US. UK and Germany were also in the middle but actually closer to Canadian pricing than US pricing.

You should have at least said Xbox One S.
PS4 Pro can't play UHD 4K discs...

Let me know when a PS4 or a PS4 Pro can play UHD discs and tone map the HDR10 correctly to my JVC RS400. Thanks for joining AVSforum this month, I hope in time you'll be a bit more informed before making a post.

Now available at Gibby's, but at full Canadian retail of $499.99.

http://gibbyselectronicsupermarket....onic-dp-ub820/

So far I haven't seen it available anywhere else in Canada, aside from the Panasonic eStore (although it's still out of stock at Panasonic).

FWIW, Best Buy USA will be getting it August 26. I wonder if it will be about the same time for Best Buy Canada, but again at Best Buy I expect it will only be for sale at full retail for period of time.

It's still sporadically in stock at the eStore. I was able to grab one around Noon on Aug 9th. Just have to keep checking religiously!

Good to know. Do they still have a 10% off code and is it the same? I have not checked for new codes lately.

The 10% off code worked for me last week. Also used Ebates for an extra 1%.

2001 Audio Video and Bay Bloor both have this player now, at full $499.99 price though of course.

None at Best Buy Canada yet. It seems they're probably trying to clear out their UB400 and UB900 units. Although for the latter, they aren't trying very hard, since the UB900 at listed at $699.99.

Was reading on blu-ray.com about how this player is not too good for playing back media files. Oh well, and I thought it would do that no problem. Can anyone test it? And I thought this would be my ultimate last hardware player before streaming takes over totally. I'm still using Win7 desktop i7-3770 from years ago along with mpc-be and I get no stuttering on high bitrate files. May as well just stick with it.

The Panasonics are lousy players for playback of files like MKV files, partially because of limited audio format support.

I believe this is intentional.

Yes, they are back in stock now, but I can get a better deal at my local store and they'll even throw it in for free if I buy the Panasonic OLED!! Hmmm....decisions, decisions.

If your good at negotiating getting a 820 under 400 cdn is doable.

And honestly I think there is more wiggle room but everyone has to make money.

Im on the fence on the 820 and 9000. I have some questions for the panasonic rep "once he is off holidays" before I make my decision.
