Any idea of whether this update will also include HLG support for Directv HDR broadcasts?

TCL may have gotten ahead of themselves on pricing this.
Agreed. This is a full grand / 125% increase from what I paid for the 65” recently. Was expecting this to land closer to $1,500.

Hi Folks,
I am having lip sync problem with my 55R617 using the internal tuner/TV app. What is curious is that sound "seems" to be behind the video.
I run the TV into a Denon X3400H. Using other inputs on the Denon (Oppo 203, Nvidia Shield) I don't see the problem.
Of course the audio delay on the Denon is useless to fix this because the sound already trails the video. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try to get better lip sync. I use the tuner for local TV quite a bit and the lip sync issue is quite distracting.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Yep, that's normal. Having had a 65 inch, and buying a 75 inch I can tell you yes it's expensive...but so worth it especially at my viewing distance (12 feet).

I'm curious how this will stack up. Obviously, this is probably going to go after the Vizio P series from 2018 (which is also $1799, but has gone down to that price after a year on market and has about 40 few dimming zones-160 vs 120). Of course, Vizio's new 75 inch P series for 2019 incorporates quantum tech and will run in the 240/480 dimming zone range, but brand new it's going to be easily over $2k. So it sounds like the TCL 6 series 75 inch is squarely designed to hit that sub $2k price point. Honestly I know it's much more expensive than the 65 inch but there's a huge market for sub $2k 75 inch (good) 4k TV's. I had a Sony 900F but sent it back purely because I hated that it cost $2800. Great to see another good, FALD 75 inch option (especially if the Vizio P75 I just ordered craps out and I need a backup option). Pretty sure this announcement marks just the second FALD TV's in that price range now.

Edit - Looks like the Vizio went back up to $1999. It was at the $1799 price point when I placed an order for it under my exchange. Still stands to reason these are two very similar products, and with TV's becoming cheaper in price over the next year it doesn't seem far fetched that the Superbowl 2019 price for this TCL will hit $1499. For an FALD 75 inch...that would be insane.

CNET claims:
"It's available for preorder at Best Buy starting today at $1,800, and coming to other retailers in the next few weeks."

They also wrote:
"Just like with the smaller versions of the 6 series, the 75-inchers will have two slightly different varieties. The Best Buy version of the set, model 75R615, has a standard infrared Roku TV remote, while the version on sale at other retailers, model 75R617, gets Roku's voice remote with Wi-Fi that doesn't need to be aimed at the TV. Pricing on the 75R617 was not announced. The two versions are otherwise identical."

man im pretty annoyed. when i first got my model i did a lot of research on picture calibration.

i read a multitude of articles on it; a lot of them suggested going "dark" and "movie" but i kind of inherently knew i didn't like that.

so, what i did was take "movie" mode and did their recommendations, but then used "normal" to adjust my own settings.

i had loved my settings. i legit liked my own settings over dolby vision "Darker" and "brighter" - the best being ultra hd 4k with my own settings.

errything seemed good, but i happened to notice that blur motion randomly came on. or "Smooth cinema" or whatever. and i was like what the hell. i check my settings and they seem all out of whack. i thought i remember for a fact that my color was up high because i remember thinking it was stupid that someone would buy this tv and then keep color low. and i remember going almost all the way up, but it was at like 60 at that time.

and then i thought i remembered my backlight being up high because when i also checked dolby vision settings i remember looking at them and seeing that "contrast" and "backlight" were all the way up and thinking i had set it right without knowing that on my own.

i then had to go adjusting everything and dont remember what they were, but a weird thing happened...

i have my home theater connected through and everything plays through my receiver: netflix, amazon, etc. etc. - anything on the tv

i noticed that when i was going back and forth with the picture the audio was changing

the sound clicking through the menu sounded weird. then the sounds got quieter. now the mute button is working scarcely. if i mute it for whatever reason it gets stuck and wont let me get it unstuck for a bit

it now seems way quieter than what it was before. "blue planet" didn't seem as immersive. my subs definitely didn't hit as hard in the thunder storms. a series of unfortunate events i do not hear any surrounds playing and i know that at "volume 60" that was pretty loud. as if i pushed it past that it was a little too loud. i generally hung around the 48 to 55 volume range

as of right now i cant hear the "ding" when you click the home button or cant hear the clicking through the menus. unsure where the settings went awry. the sound was definitely changing as i did the picture settings

man some weird stuff is going on.

i shut both off for a bit, hoping it might clear something

i turned it back on and hear the menu clicking and everything. which is good. but now some voice articulates everything i do. whenever i hover over an input or something it says what it it is. if i click it it says it launches it. if i scroll over a show it says the show and then says "launching" if i start the show.

but sound is MUCH louder again, so that's good

no idea where the voice came from as that is completely new

edit: was audioguide. got it

With my stand alone rokus and the TCL TV I will accidentally turn that on sometimes. I think if I hold the button down too long that gets me into the settings menu is what activates it?

Just to confirm, when watching football or soccer, does anyone notice blockiness/pixelation around the players compared to other TVs?

i do not. i've had this tv and the P series since they were both released and i've not had that issue with football. my source is an HD Cable DVR. i will say, like any other tv, if the source pixelates or block's up, then it's the sources issue. if it has occured it was of such a nature that i didn't notice it as i'm too busy enjoying the game/movie/program and not looking for imperfections. mind you, if anything doesn't look right and is of souch a nature that it is so out of place, yeah, i would notice that.

i've watched a lot of football on those tv's with no issues. i am speaking for myself of course.

Same thing for me. I also have the P series, and 2017 S series. I am using Directv as my source along with some OTA which I'm fooling around with. Since I will be cutting the cord shortly.

Yes, a lot. I had to turn noise reduction all the way up on the Roku app-advanced settings.

That sounds like the garbage that shows up when using motion interpolation. I turned mine off since the TCL does a worse job than my SOny with Motion Interpolation. But every TV will do the same thing at some point. It's just that my SOny would take more motion on the screen to show it.

Plus I need Natural Cinema on to eliminate any judder. And you can't have both on at the same time with the TCL.

It improved it a lot. I have every other artificial nonsense turned off, but with the only way to improve it was to turn noise reduction to its highest setting.

Mind you this is only for cable TV viewing.

Hello,

I am currently watching Wind River on Netflix, and I have it on reference volume (0 db, usually watch between -10 to -15 MV) and I can barely hear the dialogue. Audio is set to auto detect. Anyone else having this issue with the mix being too quiet when it's coming through the TV? Thanks, and I look forward to your responses.

Yes. My AVR is ancient (2006) so it only has optical and coax as it's best connections. So the TV is optical in to the AVR.

cool, this will help you get better answers as to not get responses from folks who DON'T have their tv with audio out via optical giving you answers not realizing your connected via optical or not able to test it via optical themselves. hopefully, someone with optical out and netflix will speak to it soon. if i remember tonight, i'll look for that movie and give you my thoughts on the audio via ARC just in case it's the movie/netflix.

And it’s fine. Maybe I had the wrong optical connection, because now I am at -10db, and it’s fine, weird.

Anyone else having this issue with the mix being too quiet when it's coming through the TV? Thanks, and I look forward to your responses.

No idea about Wind RIver, but with other Netflix shows its the same volume level as my external ROkus and other streamers that bitstream the DD+ Netflix audio.

I truly think the TCL 6 Series remains the value king and I have almost no complaints.

But one - I really wish I could stream from Apple products easily. Alas, that is not a functionality (short of buying an AppleTV).

I was kind of excited to see all the Apple partnerships announced this year - but TCL seems to be locked out of this party - I presume because of its relationship with Roku. . .

With all its major competitors (LG, Samsung, Sony and Vizio) jumping on Apple bandwagon is there a hope? Can't imagine that TCL wants to be in the category of those left behind. . .

Well at least if my Sony 65" UHD TV craps out, I can replace it with the 75" TCL for the same price I paid back in 2015.

Hopefully the TCL TVs coming out later this year will have more zones.

For clarification, the micro LEDs TVs will not be displays where the pixels are the actual LEDs but where the back light is made of micro LEDs. i.e., still a LCD TV. Still, sounds promising for more precise back light control.
