I remember Jurassic World 2 had it bad a lot especially at the end but I just rented it so I don't have it any more. Black levels all over are improved. Actually seeing the deep blacks in the middle of the screen impressed me more often than the bars as it's easier to imagine the bars being black.

Here are 2 pictures to compare the blooming in the black bars but this is just a basic comparison and honestly doesn't really do it justice. You really can't see the blooming with the bias lighting unless you really look at it hard in real life but it will at least give you some reference. Blooming all over the screen works basically like this so just imagine less blooming like in the picture but everywhere. Also the screen doesn't really look any darker with or without bias lighting it's just the camera doing that in the pictures.

Now if you don't want literally any blooming ever then you probably need to just get an OLED but this honestly did the trick for me and I am very happy. Also are you sitting right in front of the TV? For me moving even a foot or two left and right will introduce a lot of blooming.
Just my opinion, bu i like the non bias better. Seeing the light switch, headphones and door take me right out of the experience.

I bought a similar kit a few years ago and never used it.

Talk me into getting a second 6 Series.

We recently retired the 50" Panasonic to be a secondary upstairs TV in a bonus room and replaced it with the 65" 6 Series.

This one has been flawless - very happy with it overall and love the Roku functionality.

After 12 long years, the Panasonic has given up the ghost. Now I have to replace it. My inclination is to go with a 55" 6 series. DW wants something smaller for god only knows what reason (tbf, the Panasonic is kind of bulky and dominates the little room).

We could get a 5 series 49" - and because it's not nearly as bulky probably satisfy DW.

The 6 series though at 55" is probably similar in size to the Panasonic because of lack of besel - so I can kind of make that work.

Primary viewing consideration is - the room is very bright - lots of big windows on two sides that get a lot of sun.

Well the 6 series can get much, much brighter than the 5 series can.

Fair enough. I could see how that would be distracting for some. Thankfully for me I sort of just focus on the screen and don't notice those things. Also unlike the picture it isn't actually pitch black behind the screen with no bias lighting. So the switch and the door (I am usually wearing the headphones) are still somewhat visible.

Anybody have tips for getting the tv to control volume and on/off on the soundbar? Vizio soundbar from 2015ish. Have to use optical connection.

Guy at Best Buy says it should work fine. It worked on my old tv.

I’ve turned the tv speakers off. Other than that I see no special settings.

I have a similar soundbar and have been wondering that as well. I may end up just buying a logitech remote as I'm tired of having 3 remotes anyway. Plus the soundbar is blocking the sensor so I have to put my arm up sorta high and aim down.

I don't see how that will happen u less you use a universal remote or you use HDMI and the ARC/HDMI-CEC. No way to control another device unless the remote or device is designed to control other things. So with just an optical connection the remote would need to have the capability of controlling other devices.

My Vizio 5.1.2 speaker bar in my Sony UHD set works great with the volume control from the TV. But it has HDMI and uses HDMI-CEC/the ARC with the TV.

That’s annoying. Maybe it was just bc my prior tv was Vizio the remote talked to both. The guy at Best Buy said he’s never had somebody not be able to control the volume from the tv. But he was also condescending in general.

I might just get a new soundbar with arc... the newer hmm. Sounds like either the soundbar or tv is getting replaced.

Can someone help me understand when upscaling ability is important. I use no disks or cable tv (although might get cable again in future), but mostly stream. So is upscaling important for watching netflix/youtube/hulu/prime? From the native apps.

Nice find! Crazy it doesn’t even seem fake. It says 160 zones, 65R617, $1799. All makes sense honestly.

Checked tcl site. It’s not there. Interesting find!

See post # 4557 It's accurate alright. I'm just surprised it's hitting the market as quickly as it seems to be.

Still comes with an IR remote so no voice search and line of sight only.

$1799.99 is $830 more than the 65" model for 10" more screen real estate.

You can always buy and pair a different Roku remote for around $30.

The BestBuy website also lists the 75" as 120hz native - can be taken with a grain of salt until it is confirmed...

We are all aware of that. My point is this is an almost $2000 dollar television after tax. Come on.

I would think TCL would have given this a new model number if this set had a 10 bit panel.

$1799 for 75" seems like a REALLY healthy price jump from 65" at just $969 at best buy. That's over 85% more. Unless they can justify that with a native 120hz panel, doesnt seem like that's competing on value as much as the 55"/65" 6 series. A NU8000 or P series Vizio is only a little bit more. I wonder if that $1799 drops to like $1599/$1699 pretty quickly. IF they would have priced this at $1499 or even $1599 they would have had another value champ for sure.

The jump from a 65" NU8000 to 75" is only 66.7% increase, likeiwse for Vizio P series ($1199 to $1999 for both).

An RF remote can be added for only $25 or so. I bought one directly from Roku for my 65" 6 series I got from BestBuy.

I see they also plan on releasing 8K TVs, quantum Dot TVs, and micro LED TVs later this year.
Well at least if my Sony 65" UHD TV craps out, I can replace it with the 75" TCL for the same price I paid back in 2015.

Hopefully the TCL TVs coming out later this year will have more zones.

I’d love a 75” but when I got my 65” for 800 I don’t think I’d consider another grand for the size difference.

Next year is looking good though! 8k! Been watching CES. Looks like Vizio didn’t get the memo on that and thought, somehow, people need something brighter than the 2018 quantum.

Long-time plasma owner and I picked up the 65" version of this set from BB back on Cyber Monday.

I definitely have some vertical banding/DSE on this set but I don't have any sense of whether it's within normal ranges for this model. I don't really have any idea of what constitutes an excessive amount of screen uniformity problems and would merit an exchange.

I am using CNet's recommended picture settings and am fairly picky about picture quality.

This set is very impressive with 4k HDR source material, particularly Dolby Vision content. I am disappointed to discover that it doesn't support HLG which is the HDR format that Directv uses.

The only time I really notice the vertical banding is when watching soccer, when panning across the mostly-green background of the pitch. It's not horrific, but I do notice it.

I realize this is ultimately a subjective thing, but how much vertical banding is too much and should merit a return?

TCL debuts 8K Roku TVs, quantum dot and more dimming zones at CES 2019

"TCL also talked up additional image quality improvements in its higher-end 2019 TVs. Some models will get quantum dot technology for improved color as well as additional local dimming zones -- up to 300 percent more than previous models. That means the 65-inch set would have an impressive 360 zones, for example.

Pricing and specific availability for TCL's 2019 TVs was not announced."

i just got my 65" 6 series last year and plan on keeping it for at least another two years before thinking about upgrading if even then. of course that would also mean a new player (and possibly a cable) at a minimum not to mention studios have to start producing Super Duper UHD's in 8K.

if nothing else, we will have to then create a thread so people can start about 8K movie discs released not actually mastered in 8K.

funny how there really isn't enough 4K/HDR/DV content and here come the 8K tv's. i think it's great and all, but, i figured we'd at least have 4k broadcast tv as a normal thing before rolling in 8k tv's.

but, that's the nature of these things.

And don't forget the 75R615 @ $1799.99 is the Best Buy variant with IR remote.

The "deluxe" 75R617 with wifi voice remote will likely be $1850 on Amazon.

TCL may have gotten ahead of themselves on pricing this.

Why? That seems close to the difference with the 65" versions.
Plus the 75" IR model is exclusive to BestBuy. Just like the 65" version is.

And those are retail prices anyway.
I'm sure, like the 55" and 65" models, the 75" will be discounted later in the year.
