Does anyone know if the Dolby Dynamic Range setting should be set to Standard or Compressed under the Sound Adjustments settings, I am just using the TV's speakers and it to set Standard by default?

I don't know if there is a real answer but I use Standard. Using Compressed just make it play louder at a given volume setting, and I always assume any dynamic range compression is bad.

Hello all, I’ve noticed today that the front left bottom woofer/speaker is sounding very distorted (930c) Mainly when something with some bass kicks in or when dialog is strong. Anyone have had this issue before and how to maybe fix it?

I don’t listen to my television speakers loud by any means (rarely ever go passed 25) so I don’t think I blew anything. Thanks in advanced

When I bought my $600 TCL 6 series today, it really showed me just how far HDR tech has come in just 2 years. My 940c looks horrible in comparison when my PS4 is switched to HDR mode.

Other than that, she still shows like a beauty.

I'm curious what makes the TCL better at HDR? The 940C has more zones, higher nits, and better colour volume. HDR gaming with my Ps4 Pro has been stunning on this TV.

The PS4 games are likely to be preferred to look oversaturated and unrealistic. However, I have both a 940C and A1E and both have their strong suits (940C - brighter; A1E - true black) and HDR is gorgeous on both. It's really difficult for me to believe a $600 TV is beautiful compared to the 940C. If so, I need to see it for myself.

Illumination of SONY logo

Dear AVS forum:

The SONY logo is no longer illuminated. How do I turn it back on
I have owned this Sony XBR-65X930C for three years and cannot remember if it was illuminated. The led illumination light does work.

Suggestios?

Thank you,
Bob Cole

It has been a long and fun run with my 75x940C, but it has been officially downgraded to livingroom duty only. My dedicated HT has been completed, 100” Seymour AV screen installed, along with a JVC RS540 projector. I have no plans of retiring the 940C now, or ever (it will eventually make its way to the kid’s game room). For now it will sit majestically in our livingroom, still receiving praises from all those who are lucky enough to gaze upon the beauty of its picture, making sports magical with every frame.

For those interested, I have my build thread link in my signature. I need to update it with pictures from the midpoint to finish; just haven’t had the time, but now I’m off all week for Turkey Day!

There appears to be a new firmware update (v5.417), it says it includes the following;

Benefits and improvements from the latest update:

Adds support for the Home Theater Control app

Improves HDMI®️ video range setting

Improves performace with HDR content

Does anyone think that the HDMI video range one means that the setting is visible again, as it disappeared after the new OS was installed in a prior update.

Maybe the "Improves performace with HDR content" means they finally fixed the local dimming bug in HDR mode.

Could be worth a shot to test it out and see if has been fixed, I'll try testing it out later.

In HDR video picture mode, the black level is raised unless some form of MotionFlow is engaged. It is as if local dimming is not active for the black portions of a scene. You can test this easily on any HDR content with letterbox bars or a scene with mostly black background. Switch from "Off' to "True Cinema" for example and you will notice the black level lower substantially.

I don't see any difference with a static image. However, when I switch from "Off" to "Custom," the screen flashes black. I'm not sure why.

Try using the native Netflix app and play an HDR show and pause on what should be a black screen and test the MotionFlow setting again.

I figured it would be, if Sony hasn't fixed it by now then they never will.

Have you noticed any changes though? Is the HDMI Video Range setting visible again?

Are you referring to the "HDMI Signal Format?" You can set that to "Standard" or "Enhanced" via Settings-->External Inputs.

The setting was called HDMI Dynamic Range and it was located under Settings > Picture and Display. After the new OS update the setting was removed. Sony renamed the setting on their newer TVs to HDMI Video Range, this update mentions this setting specifically and I was hoping it had been brought back to the TV.

I don't see it. I do recall seeing it in the old OS (prior to the 7.0 upgrade), but I can't find it now.

Sony's newer TVs have it located under Picture Adjustments > Video Options, has it been moved there now?

Nope, all settings and passwords will be untouched, only time this would happen is if you Factory Reset the TV.
