It is indeed in German. Between 3:05 and 3:30 he says two interesting things: he quotes a Panasonic representative saying that the price will be "well below 1000 euro" and delivery will probably start in August.

I think it will be priced at around the same as the UB 900 when it came out in the US, so maybe around $700 US dollars. Looks like they directly competing with the Oppo 203/205

All of the Panny players I have used (including the 900) have crashed/powered off sometime into playing files off usb. Great for disk but borked everyway else.

I doubt the newer models are any better.

Analog outputs? Why? What is Panny's competitive advantage in PCM D/A conversion and analog pre amplification?

Will the UB420 (no analog outs) have an advantage over the UB900 with respect to functionality (video scaling, etc)?

A lot of us 'music' surround sound enthusiasts still have analogue audio set-ups. Which means players like the UB9000 tick more convenience boxes

If it's able to spin DVD-A's and SACD's and offer decent networking, it will join a very exclusive club of hardware players....

I like that they are coming out with this and maybe it?s overkill for most. I will consider it if it offers the best PQ and AQ In Panasonic?s line up? Most likely the 820 will be on par in PQ and most other features? But the build quality seems to be top notch and if it reduces vibration and increases longevity than I would most likely buy it and stop buying players for a long time! I?ve had 3 UHD players and more than a few Blu ray and DVD players in the last 10 years. That?s until 8K becomes mainstream in about a decade lol!

This article suggests the Panny will not play DVD-A's or SACDs, in which case it is a no-go for me.

Another, nearly but not quite device from Panasonic then... Shame, as from an 'audio' side that would have firmly kicked Sony (with their UBP-X800) in the nads!

I would assume for most theater enthusiasts seeking a reference player, not having DVD-A or SACD capability is not a dealbreaker. One can always keep another music/audio focused player in the rack. This Panasonic player reminds me of prior reference players done by Pioneer (09) and Sony of old. With all the cost cuttings in players these days, which weigh a mere couple of pounds, I was concerned we wouldn’t see one of these ambitious reference designs. To see it coming from Panasonic with the heritage of the best player image yet (Panny 900 with HCX processing), means it will very likely be a killer player. Well done Panasonic.

This is the player Sony should have built with the ES name, and perhaps raised the price of the 1000 by $300.

I don’t think I have played a CD or SACD or DVD Audio Disc in 7 or 8 years. Definitely not in my theater. Now I do like streaming music in before and while my guests are coming down to find their seats. I just want a UHD 4K Movie player with the absolute best image possible which includes the necessary tweaks and features to achieve it...

Well, to be honest, at least according to one professional review that actually compared the two (Sony 1000ES to the Oppo 203) - they said the Sony ES had a better picture and better sound than the Oppo.

So, that is saying something.

That may true for closed display systems, but for a projector setup without a Fury or Lumagen, the picture produced by the Sony will be inferior/too dark for HDR. This is where the Oppo will have some options (HDR off rec2020) and better yet the Panasonic with the Dynamic Slider. I am pro Sony, but the player fell short in my opinion (at least for projector owners).

The Sony 1000 and 800 have the same image quality. I have both and the Oppo 203. Not to mention the Panny 900 as well. The Oppo with its latest updates have really improved the image quite a bit. And yes I am a big Sony fan as well but the 1000 was not worth the price. The remote speaks for itself. They gave the same one as their 299.00 player. And feature wise it is lacking. The Panny 900 has a very impressive image and I am interested to see how well the 9000 improves upon it. Feature wise as well.
