No, the other 2018 models are using the same processor.

I'd like to spin SACD discs, but its not a dealbreaker for me as I've ripped my entire collection. The media release clearly states DSD (11.2MHz***/5.6 MHz/2.8 MHz) playback .. I guess 11.2MHz is with a firmware update.

11.2MHz playback is quite impressive actually. Sign me up.

Will this also function as a USB DAC? I can't see a USB input in any of the pictures online but those do look like pre-production images of the back panel.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting one just because I wanted it. Now, I will get one and sell the 203 because the company is shutting down.

With Oppo ceasing player production, this “should” certainly sure up Panasonic’s decision to bring this player to the US market (even if they were previously on the fence). Hope Panasonic announces a planned US release soon.

Last I was told was a couple of months on the 820, 9000 fall. IIRC, the UB900 hit here like the 1st week of Sept.

I think a big issue for Panasonic with the 9000 would be the sort of issue Oppo faced: how will they sell it?

The standard retailers Panasonic has used in the past like Best Buy will never be able to move a premium player and Panasonic has little visibility in the high end audio/video retailer pipeline since killing off their US television channel a few years back, and certainly Panasonic has been in no rush to make their OLED TVs available in the US.

At least Sony still has premium retailers through which to sell their higher-end product.

Direct sales through the Panasonic web site may well be the only way it makes sense.

I don't think we are their important market, more so in Europe. Best Buy Magnolia, a place like Value Electronics, etc... Small quantities.

Best Buy sells the X1000ES.

The disadvantage I see with the 9000 is no input, no SACD.

I'm on the fence on getting a 205 or waiting on a 9000, I don't have a UHD TV yet but I'm thinking a 205 could save money in the end because of it's input.

Edit: I use my BDP 93 as my preprocessor now.

Cheers

No. The question was could Oppo add HDR10+ support, not gonna see that now. It'll get the new Dolby Vision profile, fix HDR to SDR conversion (maybe), and then prob maintenance updates.

I have the 2017 DMP-UB400 and it is brilliant considering it only cost £270. Initially I used it to downscale UHD/HDR to 1080p which it did really well. Since Christmas it is feeding a Panasonic OLED at native 4k resolution and I can't complain with the produced picture/sound at all. It is just a shame that Panasonic doesn't have any plans to retrofit HDR10+ to this player nor the display, but then it wouldn't be a reason to buy any of the 2018 products...

I'm curious why this is an anticipation thread just for the 9000, rather than all 4 new 2018 models?

I really hope this line makes it to the U.S., I don't know how this happened but you can still get a 900 here for basically the same price in U.S. dollars as it is in U.K. pounds which is pretty amazing. Hoping the same trend holds true for these new 2018's

Only certain folks are gonna get the 9000, and it is kinda separated from the rest of the line. AFAIK, the 800 model is for sure coming, the 9000 is unknown but folks are confident.

Until projectors can do native 4K, HDR 10+, and Dolby Vision, for under $5,000, there's going to be a fairly limited market for the 9000.

I have a ub900 connected to a JVC 9500 projector. Why would I upgrade if I can't take advantage of its upgrades?

Half the available high-end market is not in play.

Not everyone is in your situation. It’s possible that those who were looking at Oppo that can’t get one anymore will look at this and then you have the panny fans like myself who may want to upgrade their 900 for DV for their DV TVs It’s a niche market after all. I just purchased an Oppo 203 and I own a Panny 900 and a Sony 800. I may not even buy a 9000 if doesn’t support DV on Sony TVs or come to the USA! I may not buy one because maybe it will be way overpriced and I like the Oppo 203 enough to hang on to it for a while. But yes it’s a limited market but we already knew that and I’m sure Panasonic knows that too. When it comes down to buying a product it all about personal preference and your individual needs and wants.

I'm a prime candidate for these new players now that Oppo is out. Currently using a UB900 as my main player (also have the X800 and X1000ES) and I think it's great, and so far I haven't had the lock-up/stuttering issues I've had with the Sonys. I'll need a player sooner or later that can support the low-latency DV profile as I already have some discs with DV that I'd like to enjoy. That limits my choices to the 203/205 or Sony X700 with a future update (don't like the small/el cheapo case).

I bought a Oppo 205 briefly before they announced their shut down. For me it was very clear that this purchase would be my last Disc Based Player. My older Pioneer BluRay Player lasted nearly 10 years for me now and albeit operating really slow I don't have major complains regarding picture and sound performance. To be honest, I don't think we will see a successor to the UBD format as this would eventually mean a complete new physical disc format I doubt anybody is willing to invest. UBD is a evolution of the original BD and easy to manufacture on existing equipment. Given the uphill battle against streaming and the very slow penetration of the declining market for physical media we can be very lucky that UBD exists and we can enjoy it as long as it present.

Anyway, as this is probably my last disc based player I struggling deciding between my Oppo 205 and the upcoming UB9000... Given the reviews the Panasonic may have the slightly better video output and hopefully the full set of support with DV and HD10+. The Oppo 205 has the broader support for Disc formats with SACD and DVD Audio. I am not healthy invested in either of these formats but I really like the idea of supporting nearly every disc based format for my last disc player. Streaming will evolve in the future and we will see many new formats so I will change dedicated players for everything what will come along anyway.

How does the Oppo compare to the UB 9000 regarding the analog audio outputs? For me this is a major selling point and I couldn't find any specific information about the audio section of the Panasonic except that it is excellent... For me this would be a critical point for my decision .
