Your welcome, glad someone started one. I’m the OP for this thread. I don’t own one and won’t for a while for several reasons, I have other AV priorities and MSRP is really high! But I will follow for sure. I’m looking to get the UB820 first or something else if CES comes out with something that interests me in the meantime until I’m ready to spring for this player as I will need another machine going forward for each of my TVs! Good luck with it and keep us tuned in with your experiences with different discs!

Thanks for (Sharing) the video link.
As the man said the UB820 for daily use is the way to go.
And in some cases it surpassed the UB9000.

I have the UB820 and it does an EXCELLENT job for me playing Hard-Disc.

I am not using it for streaming I decided to go with the Roku Ultra for streaming and the UB820 for it's main purpose playing Hard-Disc.

Absurdly ridiculous is a better descriptor. I can't believe I wasted part of my life watching that so-called "review". The "reviewer" used the exact same settings for each player. Yet, the players are NOT identical models. And even if the players were identical models there could be player to player variances. The proper way to set it up is to adjust a player/TV combo for best image quality, not adjust it for the settings used on some other player/TV combo.

To make matters worse, his big gripe was with 4K non HDR image. Who the heck watches a 4K Blu-ray with HDR turned off?

The only thing dumber than that review is people that watch it and come away agreeing that they shouldn't consider the UB9000.

A lot of discs show no mastering information („0 Nits“). Is this a bug? How does the HDR-Optimiser handle these discs? Should the optimiser be turned off in these cases?

Panasonic DM UB 9000 anticipation thread

According to a member on another forum who called VE these will not be shipping out today as expected for those of us who had to pay by 1/7. An updated ship date was not provided.

It would be nice if VE actually sent out updates to keep us informed when things change. I don’t mind waiting but not when I’m forced to pay and my patience is running out.

Update: I canceled my order

Well, the delay is not exactly a shocker. Robert started with saying the units would be available in October. He seems to feel his third shipment will be arriving in early February. I'll believe that when I see it.

Agree it would be nice to receive an update from Robert, given he has all of our e-mail addresses. The decision time will come if my credit card bill comes due for payment and these units have still not shipped. .

The email I received contained an updated ship date (Jan 16, as mentioned above).

At no time in this process did I expect the UB9000 to arrive BEFORE about late December. So, when it arrives in late January the delay will be just 1 month. Hardly long enough to get my panties in a wad.

Either I want the best 4K Blu-ray player on the market, or I don't. Waiting an extra month to get it is next to nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for your opinion Mark, to each their own...might want to get your facts straight though because these players were first due in September for those of us who signed up in the summer but hey at least your panties are not in a wad. Enjoy your player when you get it...how many ship dates are they up to now?

Meanwhile I’ve been enjoying my Pioneer LX500 since October so I’ll be fine

And I've been enjoying my Panasonic UB900 since the middle of 2017. But the UB900 isn't the best 4K Blu-ray player anymore. I would have considered the Pioneer LX500 if it had HDR Optimizer features equivalent to the new Panasonics, but it doesn't. I'd sooner own a UB820 over a LX500.

It's not Value Electronics' fault that the UB9000 is delayed. Quite the opposite, in fact. We probably wouldn't even HAVE an option of owning a UB9000 in the USA if not for Value Electronics.

Robert was basing his estimates on the information available to him at the time. It's not like he called up Panasonic and told them to delay them on purpose just to piss people off. It's clear that Robert wants to get the UB9000 into the hands of customers just as badly as his customers want their product. Robert is clearly a bonafide home theater enthusiast first, so I'm sure he feels the same disappointment we all do.

Good things come to those that wait.

I have the 900 as well as just having purchased the 820 and I must say I kind of miss using the 900.. I’m wanting the Dolby vision support though. I’m thinking the 9000 is more similar to what I’m missing with my 900? Has anyone else experienced a difference in sharpness/clarity between any of these or is just me? I have until February 11th to return the 820.. am very seriously considering getting the 9000 instead.. is it likely they will be more available by that time? Thanks so much in advance!

The UB9000 will only be available through Value Electronics and Best Buy's Magnolia stores. But, to start off with, I believe Value Electronics has reserved all of the ones destined for the U.S. for several months.

The UB9000s that are on the way to Value Electronics right now are their December allocation (which is obviously late). Their January allocation is already sold out. Last I looked, they were taking reservations for their February allocation.

If you want a UB9000 anytime soon, you better put your name on the waiting list now.

I think it's odd that VE makes people prepay for the 9000. Does one have to always prepay for preorders at VE? The least VE could do is update the shipping information especially if one has paid up front. I don't blame you for cancelling your order.

I really believe that Robert thought the shipment would arrive from CA by the 10th. Docks on the west coast have been jammed from what I have been reading due to everyone trying to get goods from China into the country before possible tariffs kick in. Throw in the holiday where most truckers are home with the family and you have delays. The 9000 is a new unit and Robert had more e-mails of interest than what would be available with the first shipment. I can see where he would want to make sure people were serious about ordering. Payment 3 days before shipping is not unreasonable. I was more than willing to reserve my spot, especially after the mass rush to get an Oppo 205 this past spring with their e-mail system.

I have purchased several other blu ray and hd-dvd players from Robert in the past with no problems. I'm will to give him a pass with this delay, since I am certain he will deliver on the product.

Thank you so very very much for the response. Wow. I’m new to this field and haven’t seen such a limited release before. So they will in fact for sure be coming to the Best Buy Magnolia stores? Any idea of a time frame for that? Thanks so much for that important information for the waiting list. I’m so split... are there any comparisons at all of the 820 and 9000 as far as PQ goes?

If you read all the threads on the subject, most people say PQ is identical. Most of the guts of the things are identical too.

I will definitely go searching through this thread for that then! Thank you SO very much. So mainly the differences are the build and audio for those using it for that? I wouldn’t think that would amount to $500/$600 difference? /: I do know this one makes quite a bit of noise... does the 9000 have this issue as well?

That was a concern of mine as well (I have built my little home-theater area to be as quiet as possible, including a fanless home-theater PC). From what I've read, it is quieter, though the 9000 DOES have a fan in the back. Some have said it's dead quiet, some have said they hear some noise (both fan noise and disc mechanism noise), so it's hard to say... I'll report back here when I have my 9000, because it's a very important thing to me.

People have said the 820 was slightly noisier than the 9000 (likely because of the difference in build and materials).

I’ll be looking forward to hearing your account as far as the fan goes and I wish you lots of luck that it is barely audible! I’ve read some have returned their 820’s and bought another and it’s much quieter so it could just be quality variance greatly due to the cheaper build and materials. So you would say the $500ish dollar difference between the two doesn’t depend too much on PQ? Mainly sound and build then..?

ETA: I just read through this thread for posts pertaining to comparisons between the 820 and 9000 especially as far as PQ goes and I’m wondering about the extra gamma setting? So is this gamma setting available for all of the options (OLED) when you select what you have in the menu or ONLY added for the projectors? Also, with mentions of coming to Best Buy Magnolia’s I didn’t see any references or specifics regarding that... so is this official or just rumored/play by ear?

One last question.. with my 900 you’re able to fast forward one and it would speed up the sound along with the barely fastforwarded video. It also will hold the spot if a disc is stopped in a certain sport and the be saved upon resumption of powering on the player for those disc that don’t have this “resume” feature themselves. Does the 9000 offer either one of these over the 820 lacking it or are these two features simply out in the lineup after the 900?

I can't answer your questions, but here's some other threads for your perusal:

The sole U.S. importer and reseller for the UB9000 has stated that the video electronics and performance is identical to the UB820. The performance differences are in analog sound quality (not HDMI bitstream sound) and in build quality.

It would be nice if VE actually sent out updates to keep us informed when things change. I don’t mind waiting but not when I’m forced to pay and my patience is running out.

Update: I canceled my order
What happens if you don't pay by 1/7? I still haven't paid my invoice and it is still there in Paypal.

The UB9000 also has a gigabit ethernet port instead of just 10/100 ethernet. Although I'm not sure how useful this is because it sounds like network playback is pretty limited.
