Considering some studios only release Atmos audio on UHD discs it will be more common than you think, especially for projector users.

Hardware mod sounds interesting, got any link?

Think it's time to wait for some FW upgrades to both the SONY and LG come out.. :-( Wanted to jump on the Sony but issues with some standard BD titles aren't a good thing, but sad to see LG not supporting SACD or DVD-Audio (which SONY does).. On the latter, guess I keep my older Oppo DVD player for those disks just to get the audio/video fed into my Denon.. Seems like after 1800+ posts on the Official Sony thread things at best are a little mixed... Will be interested to start seeing actual user reports here.... Also, which it going to play nicer with my OLED C6.. One would assume the LG??

Yes, the Oppo 203 does have a lot of issues. I bought it back in December when it first came out because I had such good luck with the 103 but the 203 was definitely not ready for prime time. I never knew whether my disc was going to play or not. Considering it's so expensive, I ended up sending it back for a refund. I lost the shipping costs and $10.00 because I forgot to send back the HDMI cable that came with it. I'm hoping the LG is a lot better for almost half the price of the Oppo...

Did the Oppo have a Native/Original Resolution option? I know that's one thing that the LG is missing right off the bat...

Yes, it's called "Source Direct" and I use it on my 103. I found no need for it on the 203 since I only like it when viewing streaming content from the apps. The 203 has no apps.

Have you tried to use this player with a 1080p display?

Also is there a multiregion/multizone mod/hack available?

I have one ordered in US.. sitting at local Post office. Should be delivered today or tomorrow. Hope does not disappoint...

Using the shallows as test Uhd blurray movie to start. I have LG 65 C6 OLED. The picture compare between the 203, x800 and UP970 all looks great. The x800 feels better built like the 203 . The UP 970 seems cheaper including the Blu Ray tray. I will get back on the compare of up scaling and feature etc

if you got any full screen blu rays can you check for a white line at the bottom of the screen while playing the disc?

I don't think it's the player that causes this I tried both the Samsung and the Philips player and I would get some flashes on the screen. The way I found to stop it from happening was to turn off true motion. I don't know if we are seeing the same thing. I would see a flash of a blocken up line on the very top of the screen for a spit second. I see it on both of my full screen uhd.

I only see it on UHD player, same disc on standard bluray is fine.
True motion is off on both.

It will be a keeper. I watch Rogue one last night 3D good upscale and perfect 3D . Watch UHD movies now u see me 2 , ghostbusters, shallow, passengers and mag 7. All work perfectly no disc errors. Great picture. I tried the two apps on the 970 and no issue but far from being complete. I expect a better selection with firmware updates. This unit will go with my LG Oled tv because of future upgrade of dobyvision. The x800 will go with my Sony 940 d which does not have Dolby vision just hdr10' and I don't think x800 will get it in firmware. The Oppo has been a pain in the ass from day one issues it will be going back to Oppo. The interest part I get 2 player for 600 vs the Oppo for 550. Yes the Sony and the Oppo are built like tanks and yes the build of the LG feels cheaper. If I was rating them it would look like this . Higher the score the better it is .
LG build quality a 3, app feature a 3,lack of issues 5, remote 3, DV 5 , picture 5
Sony build quality a 5, app feature a 3, lack of issues 5, remote 3, DV 1, picture 5
Oppo build quality a 5, app feature a 0 , lack of issues 1, remote 5 , DV 5 , Picture 4
Samsung 8500 quality 3, app feature a 3 , lack of issues 2, remote a 1, DV 0, picture 3

I did own the Sammy for a week and it was returned asap the red issues and over all I hate the curve front. Hope this helps.

The Sony X800 will, in all likelihood, be getting Dolby Vision as well.

And you are stating that both the Sony and LG have a better picture than the Oppo
