The older set may need boosting, but since wife is a 3D nut, instead of 4K, no need of a boost. My KS9800 no such problem.
I’m talking about the player not any particular TV. This was supposedly because the player didn’t output an unadulterated picture.

The 2 clicks boost had to do with viewing 4K HDR content through the player on certain Samsung Tvs. There wasn't a problem or deficiency with the output of the UBD-K8500.

I have had this player for two years and never had the need to boost gamma. I have played both UHD disks and 1:1 rips of the same disks via a media player and have noticed no difference in gamma.

Agreed. Many have found HDR to be a bit dark to their liking. Not only on Sammy TV's but we've also discussed this on my Sony thread.
It isn't a issue with the player but a perceived issue with HDR. Some of us have boosted gamma a click or two on the TV while in HDR mode since the issue was cross sourced. Either that of a lightening of contrast a bit for HDR.
YMMV

Never had issues on my KS-9800, but the player has been on 3 of my sets, and yes, tad darker on my HU9000 +SEK-3500, and the current JU7100 that it's on now, but did not really find a need to bump up the gamma. (Note: the K8500 gave a far superior PQ on the KS9800 than either the HU9000 + SEK3500U and JU7100. In fact, I gave Black Panther 1 star when viewed, versus 5 stars on the KS9800. Bumping up the gamma can still not over come the differences in the Nit levels. If the TVs are putting out less than 650 Nits, then you'll never get good HDR! Time for a new higher Nit level set!)

Addendum. Just got the IMAX Enhanced BDs - will have to try on the JU7100 re the KS8500, to see how well they look. (Journey to the South Pacific.)

Trailer looks better on the 7100. Over all PQ looks better, and more natural looking on the KS9800, Try renting this BD, still looks very good on the JU7100. See if you find this dark, because it's not on my system.
