Panasonic / MEI makes the best media. Their single layer media is not very common in the US and is expensive compared to other SL media. Adorama sells it, but it costs more than $1 per blank for 4x. link
. There is also Digistor branded 6x BD-R media also made by Panasonic. Unfortunately, it's not any cheaper. link
Panasonic made dual layer media is a tad more common and competitively priced compared to other DL media. Again, Digistor offers it. printables link
/ branded link
The printable Verbatim Dual Layer media is also made by Panasonic. It's slightly cheaper than the Digistor, but is 4x, not 6x. link
NOTE: If you decide to buy Digistor media, make sure it has the blue label and is "Professional Grade" and says it's made in Japan. They've changed suppliers a few times over the years and you don't want the older media.
For single layer BD-R lately I've been using these
. Quality scans indicate they are among the best (at least in initial burn quality). However, they went unavailable for some number of months and have returned with different packaging. The seller says the Media ID is the same. I ordered some of the new ones to test and compare to the older ones. Hopefully they're the same.
I had great luck in the past with branded SmartBlu media made by FTI in the UAE, but the branded media went unavailable and the silver laquer SmartBlu
media I bought is not as good with the errors spiking in the last 1gB or so.
Years ago I thought Verbatim BD-R media was high quality since their DVD+R's were (dual layer & single layer), but this French study of BD-R longevity
scared me away from their BD-Rs since I could buy other quality blanks for the same price or less. I haven't had problems with the Verbatim discs I burned though.
Early on when I first was burning BD-R I tried some Memorex (Ritek made) discs. They seemed to be failing after few years with bad quality scans so I reburned all the discs onto better blanks. I had some Merax (Optodisc made) blanks that were pretty crappy out of the gate. Quality scans showed they were not good burns so I reburned them onto something else. I also tried some Optical Quantum / Vinpower blanks. They were okay, not great, not terrible.
Ultimately, I'd recommend reading this thread
and noting which MID blanks burn best.
