Atmos music MOAR please.....

I have roger waters the wall.....technically not Atmos music, it is a great disk giving excellent immersion.

I just received my Kratwerk 3D bluray…..it is Atmos music, while terrible music, technically not terrible, just not my style I guess, it shows what Atmos music can be.

Both of those disks were like 15 bucks each...…….I am not paying 80-150 for the other couple of Atmos music releases just to hear Atmos, I would guess most of the mass consumers also feel that way.

Perhaps dolby needs to make the tools more available to individuals or something, so we can get on with this wonderful format for music !!!!!

It can give ambients like being at a concert or in a music hall and also like the Kraftwerk 3D, make music jump all over the place.

Plenty of movies, but the music artists need to be all over this format....I would have thought the EDM/electronic crowd would have been all over this as it would be perfect for that style......not to mention other styles.

I am not understanding the delay...…..the tools are there and now there are examples of music for all the hear and its good, very good, a massive jump in immersion and sound. Like a movie, Atmos cores down into a mix that can be played in stereo/mono all the way to full blown Atmos, so there is no compatability issues with doing Atmos...

Make MOAR Atmos music !!!!!!!

A couple of other titles to consider

INXS: Kick (30th Deluxe Edition)

Booka Shade: Galvany Street

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody: Prometheus

And there a quite a few live concerts with an ATMOS layer. Of course the best of the bunch is R.E.M.: Automatic for the People, but that will set you back a bit more.

Are those just ambient style mixes ?

Or did they make stuff bounce all over rapid fire like Kraftwerk.

Steve Genewick (an audio engineer) who mixed Crowded House and Richard Thompson 5.1 DVDAs posted this on QuadraphonicQuad recently:

Quote:
The buzz in my world on surround sound is huge, but it's not 5.1. I've spent a good part of the last year or so mixing music only in Dolby Atmos. No visuals, just music. None of what I've been doing is commercially available yet, but I'm hoping it will be soon. Dolby Atmos is surround taken to the next level. Hopefully, you'll all be able to experience it soon. The discussion about how it will be delivered and the playback options for the consumer are endless at this stage, and I don't think we need to get into that here. I'm sure there's already a discussion somewhere on this site.
So we may see a new round of surround releases soon I hope!

Here is a free download of an album recorded in Atmos: http://mattdareywolf.com/

While this is a Blu-ray concert video it is in Atmos and it is awesome http://www.amazon.com/Hans-Zimmer-L...70_&dpSrc=srch

NICE!

The ambient stuff is outstanding....makes it seem like you are really at a concert or in a hall with live instruments, but after listening to the Kraftwerk I now see how crazy it can get. I hope some of it is that, instead of just ambience /realistic stuff.....like the old 70/60`s rock and roll where it hard pans left to right or one instrument comes from the left and another from the right......even the 5.1 stuff has been pretty mild focusing more on realism and ambience rather than slingin tracks all over the place.

Some of the first hand accounts from the huge nightclubs that are live mixing in Atmos say they are slinging sounds all over the place, spinning 360`s etc.

Actually I prefer surround mixes that are more discrete and/or with movement (circles, diagonal pans, back/front etc). There’s some pretty effective stuff, particularly in the seventies quads, even specific musical notes bouncing around the room.

A few recent 5.1 mixes like Seal, Talking Heads (DVDAs) and Allman Brothers & Hendrix recent BDA releases have been more adventurous and get played regularly here.

The Booka Shade "Galvany Street" album makes great use of Atmos. And I agree more "electronic" music would be great. I'd love to hear Atmos music from artists like Nine Inch Nails, Moby, Chemical Brothers. And I could imagine great things from St. Vincent or PJ Harvey, Sufjan Stevens

Another upvote for the Booka Shade disc as a great example of what 3D immersive audio formats can do. They position instruments near and faraway fro the listener and in multiple positions above and behind the MLP. It is much more impressive than 5.1 (and I have a ton of 5.1 material) because the music is mixed to locations not channels. The preamp maps out the actual speaker locations/distances during setup and therefore know who to decode and place the various object sounds so they render correctly on your actual setup.

This is akin to pixel graphics (jpg) vs Vector graphics (SVG, Postscript, etc.) which scale dynamically based on the rendering system resolution.

It is transformative, and for any multichannel audio fan, a welcome new world of much more immersive music.

I can't wait for the first Steven Wilson mix, prefferably one of his own albums to use Atmos. That boy understands how to layer and position sounds in a way that augments and expands the actual music and orchestration.

That's it, I have or have rented a lot of Atmos material and while it certainly a upgrade from base layer surround, nothing has knocked my socks off yet. Some is very good, but usually leaves you wanting more.

The part for me that makes me know more is attainable is certain sequences or parts or just fleeting moments of greatness is heard in some music and movies for use of Atmos...….It usually comes in small sporatic spurts and never enough to satisfy.....the greatness is achievable, but I think the format is soo new it will take a while.

Stereo music was around quite a while before several artists went off and pushed the limits of left to right pans and instruments originating from just one speaker...…..

I want this level in Atmos...….discrete left and right with panning effects, is that soo much to ask ?

The first few seconds demonstrate what could be happening in Atmos....

Very solid Atmos blu ray. A "you are there" mix as opposed to music from everywhere. Highly recommended and won't break the bank. You need to go to setup and select Atmos as stereo is the default.

Yes, currently having mind blown by this. I've listened to it a number of times, but never as loudly as I am right now due to neighbors and wife presence. It just gets better. Might not be the type of music for everyone, but it is worth a listen for the (what I think is) the excellent Atmos / Surround mix. And I do happen to like this type of music too, so all the better.

Yes it is very frustrating, should be heaps more. You keep hearing about all these producers and engineers saying that they are really excited about the format but nothing is coming out.
I want MOAR as well.

Yeah, upmixing is one thing - and I do a lot of this now. Probably more of this than stereo listening (sorry stereo purists....). I prefer the immersion I get from this, though certain material I leave at stereo listening. BUT - music mixed for surround? Whole new level. I know if there was MOAR out there, I'd be spending a lot MOAR $$$ ! Maybe I"m looking in all the wrong places.....

Yes I have this one. The band is one of a few modern pop oriented artists that I enjoy and respect, as they write their own songs and actually play and sing live. Coldplay would be another example.
