Hendrix-Electric Ladyland in 5.1?

There have been some rumblings but it looks like it will happen- Electric Ladyland in 5.1!!!!!!

THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!

Preliminary link. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GGG5BTD/?tag=imwan-20

Electric Ladyland Deluxe Edition includes a full color, 48-page book containing Jimi’s handwritten lyrics, poem and instructions to his record label, as well as never before published photos from the recording sessions that were shot by Eddie Kramer himself. All contained in a deluxe casemade book with new cover art which is true to Hendrix’s original vision of the album’s cover: a Linda (McCartney) Eastman photograph of the band and children at the statue of Alice In Wonderland in New York’s Central Park.

CD1: the original album, now newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes.
CD2: Electric Ladyland: The Early Takes, which presents 20 never before heard demos and studio outtakes from this period in Hendrix’s career.
CD3: Jimi Hendrix Experience: Live At the Hollywood Bowl 9/14/68, part of Experience Hendrix’s Dagger Records official bootleg series. The never before released recording captures the band and the mounting excitement that took place just weeks before the release of Electric Ladyland.
Blu-ray: includes the acclaimed full-length documentary At Last… The Beginning: The Making of Electric Ladyland plus a new 5.1 surround sound mix of the entire original album by Hendrix’s original engineer Eddie Kramer plus the original stereo mixes in uncompressed 24 bit/96 kz high resolution audio.

tt,

Where did you find the information Electric Ladyland Deluxe boxset? The link from Amazon doesn't show much if any information. I get email updates from Super Deluxe Edition and I don't see any mention of the Electric Ladyland deluxe box set. I'm definitely interested in the 5.1 mix and hope that a stand alone Blu-ray with the 5.1 mix will be released.

Thanks for posting a second source for the info. I got mine on the IMWAN forum. I wasn’t sure about posting it until I found out Bull Moose had a sales link up but pulled it down for some reason.

It will probably go for more than what the link at Amazon has but it’s Hendrix baby! Whatever it is, I’ll pay it.
Even in stereo it sounds like it’s in surround.

After seeing your post I placed a preorder at Amazon. If the price goes down the price will be adjusted. If it goes up and I didn't place the preorder then that wouldn't be good!

My sub better rattle the fillings in my teeth when ...And The Gods Made Love begins.

Interesting article in Rolling Stone

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/m...eissue-720782/

The whole idea with the 5.1 mix was, ‘What would Jimi have done?'” Kramer explains. “I had this joystick, which was a 5.1 panning device, [and] I would listen to the original stereo mix and go, ‘OK, I did that in the stereo.’ Now in the 5.1, I’m going to zip it from left to right, center to back and zoom it all around.’ If Jimi had lived, he would have been so excited to hear that buzzing around his head. He would have said, ‘Yeah, man, do that. Move that sound around.'”

Although he worked hard to keep it true to the original mix he made with Hendrix, listeners will hear new things in the mix, according to the engineer. “There’s so much more clarity and so much more depth,” Kramer says. “You really can understand and hear a lot more detail of the underlying instruments, the rhythm guitars that Jimi put in, the subtle things that were going on with the background vocals, the percussion. It’s just in your face. You feel like you’re in the room with the band.”

Good shopping! Amazon.ca was $90. ImportCDS doesn't have it up in Canada yet, but $40.40 plus $6.99 shipping looks good to me.

Great price from ImportCD’s but I pre-ordered one from Bull Moose @ $50. I usually get my orders in 2 days and the stuff doesn’t come in one of those blasted ravioli mailers.

I got an advance of the 2.0 and 5.1 mixes (compressed and uncompressed) of Electric Ladyland. This is one of my favorite rock albums, highly anticipated this reissue. Quite disappointed. The 2.0 mix is stunning, but the 5.1 surround mixes suffer from too much going on, due to the fact that there are so many layered guitar tracks. I heard some cool stuff that was absent from the original mix but overall I felt assaulted, not immersed. And key guitar parts of "1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)," an epic Hendrix track, are lost in the mix altogether. Went back and listened to the 5.1 of Wish You Were Here, one of my favorite surround mixes, just to remember what it sounds like when it's done right.

One of the best surround new mixes I've heard of late is the quad mix of John Lennon's Imagine (also an advanced of the new Imagine box set). Just amazing. Made me rethink and appreciate the strengths of quad vs 5.1.

How could they have remixed the 2.0 well and missed by so much with the 5.1? Is it too ping pongy?

So far the 5.1 Blu-ray as received good reviews on the Hoffman Forum, but the stereo version not so much.

Definitely disappointing for those hoping for a great high resolution stereo mix that this has inexplicably been subjected to moderate dynamic range compression, but for those buying primarily for the 5.1 mix I'd agree with oats original assessment that this is mostly a winner. Watchtower for me was the one I was hoping would get a great 5.1 mix and it IS great, one of the tracks where the vocals stay focused up front and everything else is free to open up.

The dynamic range compression evident on the stereo mix does NOT show up on the 5.1 mix. Sometimes the DR meter can be fooled by surround channels and give a score that isn't indicative of the compression used on the main body of the music but I measured just the fronts of Crosstown Traffic and the 5.1 measures DR13 while just the fronts alone still measure DR12 so that is good stuff.

Great info, thanks! I bought this set for the 5.1 so Im happy.

I did come home to this set surprisingly sitting on my door step last night which was like a ray of sunshine after such a ***** day otherwise. Listened to the DTS-MA 5.1 mix and I thought it sounded excellent! Little Miss Strange, Gypsy Eyes, Burning of the Midnight Lamp, etc......are mixed really well I thought with great use of surrounds and so on. Watchtower and Voodoo Child was like a whole new experience as both are so open and airy now......fantastic! Very happy on my first listen!

I didn't realize the package would be as big as it is. I'm looking forward to listening to this today (after the White Album). I've always felt that Hendrix studio albums are a bit like suffering an assault of "too much going on" as atomicdog69 says. But I felt the same way about Bitc hes Brew too and the multichannel mis clarified that a lot. I recently got a DVD of Hendrix on TV in France and it whetted my appetite for some electric guitar fun. Looking forward to it.

Holy crap! Has anyone else listened to this yet? It's one of the best multichannel mixes I've ever heard. The drums and bass are incredibly strong and the whole album has a big fat sound with massive dynamics. I listened to this after the White Album and the contrast was huge. White Album sounded clean, but kind of thin and the mix on some of the songs just didn't seem balanced right. Then I put this monster on and it steamrolls right through my living room. What was this recorded on? It had to be at least 8 channels. Maybe more. It's dynamic and live sounding, but it's still demonstration quality. This shoots to the top of my favorite multichannel albums for sure. I'm not even a huge fan of Hendrix, and I'm only familiar with a couple of songs on this album, but I am totally blown away.

The low end was excellent which I forgot to mention in my comments above. It's a great 5.1 mix for sure!

I only had a chance for a quick listen last night...

All Along the Watchtower was always my favourite, but I wore out one vinyl copy of this album fifty years ago - I pretty much know it bar by bar. I played the PCM 5.1 and was very impressed with the dynamics.

Eddie Kramer hit a Grand Slam with this one! The Mix and SQ are awesome. The bottom end is tight and deep. Vocals are natural and clear. The whole package is well done. If only he would do Abbey Road next.

Wow!!! I've only checked out Side 1 (if you all recall the 4 sides of the album). But... loved every moment of it. Great use of the surrounds. Full and dynamic, yet not too gimmicky. The first song, which of course swirls around, was tailor made for swirling around. I think I would've been let down a bit if it didn't. The next 2 songs were fantastic (of course), with just the right amount of surrounds to place you in the middle of the action. But then, the tour-de-force, Voodoo Chile. Utterly fantastic. It got me wondering, though, whether anyone has taken the time to transcribe what all the chatter was at the end of the song. Can't wait to listen to the rest of it.

I only bought this for the blu ray and I have to say hats off to Eddie Kramer. He made this sound like a brand new album.

after a more extended listening this morning...

I've got to say this one ranks with the dozen or so 5.1 hi rez rock mixes such as Avalon and Brothers in Arms which are simultaneously revelatory and definitive. I slightly prefer the timbre of the PCM mix over the DTS-MA on my system.

Viewed Blu-ray - Pretty fantastic disc – watched the documentary first - talks about production of each song and interviews with crew personal involved –must watch-
Disc is fascinating listen – lots going on in each song and disc brings it all out-
Far from audiophiles dream but source material is superbly presented – recommended

Just ordered this. Is this the first multichannel mix of one of his studio albums? I think his first had an SACD but I think it was only stereo?
