You're going to have to specify that the source recording was done at 96/24 PCM standards...because there's a ton of recordings that were recorded in analog or standard definition digital and then upconverted to 96/24 just for marketing purposes.

Yeah...and it's your baby, so you do what you want; but I don't know that the 24/96 has to be such a strict qualification. Sure, we'd all love 24/96...but Stop Making Sense, for example, turned out to only be 24/48. It was disappointing, but still sounds better than redbook.

I don't think combining them is a good idea. There are WAYYYYYYYYYYY more concert BD's and to pick and choose which ones lend themselves to audio only is completely subjective.

As an aside regarding 24/96, MOJO is 24/48, but has zero drc which makes it wonderful to listen to.

Don't forget "Metal Machine Music" by Lou Reed. Not sure how you would classify that one, but it's a BD Audio Only Surround release!

IMHO "Blu-Ray Audio" catching on is highly unlikely.

Price and copy protection are the drivers.

CD discs can be ripped without legal worries, and it's easy to do.

MP3 is popular due to that it can be done from CD discs, again without legal worries.

CD continues to be where it's at for high quality stereo sound. For 5.1 sound my experience is that SACD continues to be an OK choice and not that expensive.

Well, if people are confusing hi-res for multi-channel then you may be right. But saying redbook CD is the standard for high-quality, 2-channel sound is ridiculous. Hard to argue with the fact that there are less than even a handful of titles right now; but to say it doesn't sound better. Ever listened to hi-res, 2-channel...or do you think it's all about gimmicky "surround sound"?

Hmm:

Tom Petty Mojo Blu-ray Audio - $16.99
Dire Straits S/T SHM-SACD - $72.99

Seems like we've gotten more 5.1 Blu-ray Audio discs in Q4/10 than we got 5.1 SACD's for pop/rock.

Although not sold separately as a Blu-ray Audio title, it should be noted that when you buy the Blu-ray release of Inception the second disc contains, amongst other special features, the 39 minute score audio-only in dts-HD Master Audio 5.1 by Hans Zimmer.

Wicked!

2L has a new BD-Audio title coming out in Dec.
"HarmOrgan" will be available on BD in DTS-MA 5.1 at 24/192.
Also available on SACD and Hi-Res FLAC.

This BD also has the new "mShuttle" feature that allows you to off-load FLAC and MP3 files via Ethernet.

I have it, hahahahaha!
It's frikkin' awesome, absolutely incredible. A wonderfully analog sounding recording.

There are 9 reviews up on sa-cd.net you can peruse including mine - http://www.sa-cd.net/showreviews/6606

Although most places will cost you US$76 (it's $83 on Amazon now), you can get it for $53.39 + $2.98 shipping on Amazon's marketplace - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=all

thanks for the sa-cd link. out of 9 reviews, there was one person who didn't like it. everyone else said it was basically audio nirvana. there are only 2 reviews on amazon - and one person panned it pretty bad. i wonder if it's the same person who didn't like it on sa-cd because he said it was thin and hissy.

hmmmm.... i may have to buy myself a Christmas present

SC, awesome that you have undertaken this project. Creating criteria of what to include in your list is very difficult to do. For instance, I have several operas on BD that could easily be played without the video. I fear that whatever criteria you select, someone will always feel there is an exception.

Of interest to me is "recommended" multichannel music in high def format (DVDa, SACD or BD or even DD/DTS 5.1).

thanks! Marcus

My first post here.

I'm very interested in BD Audio. Would you say that this list is somehow "complete" in releases? Is there any official list of Blu-Ray Audio Disc releases? It should be somewhere, like IMDB for movies... Anyone?

Thank you.

That's the goal of this thread - to compile and track such a list. There's a bit of subjectivity, since some of the best audio on Blu-Ray includes live concerts with video. Those won't be included on this list, but CDLehner has a separate thread tracking them.

If you are aware of any Blu-Ray audio discs that aren't on the list, please speak up!

Dire Straits Alchemy is out on Bluray with DTS HD Master. It sounds awesome. Has video too, obviously not the best quality as it was shot over 20 years ago.

I might have to pick up their SACD, it sounds worth it.

I have another question. Is there any difference between for example the releases of Divertimenti?

I mean, one release came in May 2008, but was that release just "ordinary" Blu-Ray or the new 3.0 Blu Ray Audio BRAA-format?

I found one release of this in 2010. Which seems to have another "shape"? More like a CD-shape? Maybe this is the new Audio-only 3.0 BRAA?

So, do you know if there are any differences between these releases?
Ive found a lot of different releasedates too:
Releasedatum: 2010-09-01 - Megastore.se
And for the double (SACD inclusive): Aug 26, 2008 - Blu-ray.om

I really want the CD-shaped one.

Another 'shape' - square? rectangular? star?

The two listings on the Swedish site have the same catalogue number as the one on the official 2L site, which only lists the 2008 released title. It's reasonable to conclude they are all the same and the 2010 date on the Swedish site is probably either mistaken or reflects when it is locally available or first listed.

There is no such thing as 3.0 Blu-ray Disc, in the same way there are no 1.0 or 2.0 Blu-ray Discs. The profile numbers refer to hardware. BRAA - I tried searching Google but it turns up with...

I'm not sure if the Blu-ray Discs with audio and static menu or picture slide shows qualify to be properly called audio-only Blu-ray Discs or Blu-ray Audio Discs or whatever. When you play the audio, the menu or track listing screen still shows rather than going blank. That is either video with a static image or a graphic overlay in a video stream.

Audiosceptics accept audio trials using 25 people. A recent Oxford study with over 353,000 patient records from 639 separate clinical trials shows for every 1,000 people taking diclofenac or ibuprofen there would be 3 additional heart attacks, 4 more cases of heart failure and 1 death every year.

From the article: "Camerata Tokyo will release three albums in the new high-quality audio Blu-ray disca in November. The discs are not expected to cost more than SACD releases."

So that means $60-$80 each?

I hope less. Today the standards are another than old days.

Another news today:
http://cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=34385

However those only are burned using blu-ray laser onto normal CD, so standard CD player can read them, only jitter would be around 10 times less (the less the better).

Dunno if it will be noticied even with classic music (and I hear that kinda a lot).

Already on wiki:
